ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Having reached the sixth decade of my life: observing, drawing, painting, teaching, gardening, and traveling, I find myself filled with memories and images of color, space, and form. I liken this to a deep well that I am able to reach down into and translate into tangible, abstract works of art. Prior to this time I have spent many years drawing and painting in a more realistic manner. This has provided a firm foundation for my leap away from direct subject matter. The abstract work of the past three years has been very liberating because it is an integration and expression of all the richness of life and color that I feel passionate about.
